Looking forward to the start….of the house!

As most (or all) of you will know, we have been working for some time preparing for the build of our new home. Our architect – Fraser Cameron – and our builder – Rich Stewart (The Craftsmen Builders) have been busy and our plans have been submitted for on January 10th for council ‘consent’ (building permit in Californian). The council have a 20 day limit to approve or query details (which stops the clock until questions are answered). Unfortunately (?) New Zealand had plentiful holidays which don’t count as working days!

Meanwhile, we have been really busy looking at all sorts of bits and pieces we need to decide on…flooring, tiling, countertops, baths, sinks, toilets, tapware, doors, windows, AC, lights (internal and external), appliances, etc etc etc. We are getting there but it certainly isn’t as convenient as it was in the Bay Area where everything is available pretty much on the doorstep. We are getting there though!

We currently have 16 flooring samples and a whole load of tile and countertop samples laid out on the floor in our rental cabin which we look at through the course of the day to see how they look in different lights. Each day we eliminate or reinforce several choices…..luckily we have plenty of time but the process is fun and its great we have the chance to do it. Of course, the downside is we have no excuse once the house is built….its all down to us!

For those that haven’t seen them already, these are the plans…

More info as we move into the building phase! Stay Tuned!!

Ok, so I did not want to get kicked off your blog by making comments on each post. I really like that you all are sharing your experiences and I’ve learned quite a bit. I don’t know if I will be able to say the names of the places you visited but I sure did try. Looking forward to your next post. So . . . Let me ask a question that I probably should know the answer. How will I know when your next blog is posted? 🤷🏻‍♀️(That’s not the emoji I wanted but it works)

    Ian and Linda,

We are enjoying your blog – well done!

The places you have visited is giving us some additional ideas as we have started to think about our trip itinerary for late January/February 2021.

Also, your home layout looks great!

Hi Andy, We hope all is going well with you and the family in the midst of this worldwide problem. We are of course in a complete lockdown but at least here in NZ the numbers are improving now. We are just holding on and waiting to restart the house construction. It is probably going to be around this time in 2021 before its finished though!
